Dr. Popo's Grand Machine
I am going to write a long, thought out post later on this BUT

The second worst thing about the Komen thing (first worst being their defunding and grant pulling) is that now a lot of shitheads who have NO IDEA how nonprofits function and help people are pulling out their really ignorant opinions about how nonprofits SHOULD work and it’s making me scream.

NO, Cancer Nonprofits are not preventing cancer treatment to keep money in their pockets. There is no cabal to keep cancer in existence for nefarious reasons, and the fact that people are stating these opinions re: Komen and other charities AND THAT PEOPLE ARE BELIEVING IT is fucking gross as hell.

NO, Cancer Nonprofits CAN NOT pay for medical care for everyone. It would cause the nonprofit to shut down within months and then no help would be given out again, good.

YES, though, Cancer Nonprofits can have GOOD ideas and opinions. They can work and lobby (most have to do this through a seperate lobbying group for legal reasons) for better cancer treatment, UHC, the removal of pre-existing condition clauses, better insurance, and more screenings for the underprivelaged. This they CAN do, and this is NOT what Komen does or ever has.

Now THAT’S a legit reason to get mad at Komen re: policies as well.

I’ll have a better post tomorrow but work time

very good breakdown...article’s attitude in particular. Thanks
