Haha, it’s ok! Honestly, to FULLY DISCLOSE, I work for a health related charity (Not Komen, actually) and we offer these services and the thing is that I’ve heard a lot of people who’ve used our services (underserved and etc) and have thanked us and etc. Also full disclosure, I’ve had to use government health services for almost my entire life and I know how absolutely BUTTS UP they are to go through. In fact, I’ve acted as a sort of “”“personal patient navigator”“” for a lot of my friends who’ve never had insurance but needed to use government services by finding them stuff in their area that I’d only be able to find because I’ve been there before, you know?
And pleaaaase don’t see this as a thing to go YEAH KOMEN ACTUALLY RULES because no no no no no. Komen does fund research and does give out money to good services, but they also give out false information about breast cancer to scare women away from abortions. And that is so beyond vile that I can’t even begin to start about how vile it is.
But yeah, this typically happens any time a charity does something wrong, it’s put under such tight scrutiny that people start getting mad at everything about it instead of the actual things they should be mad at. And trust me, there’s a lot you can be mad about re: Komen. I could go on for AGES and such and honestly every single cancer charity has had to suffer through Komen’s misbehavior through angry/confused people thinking that EVERY cancer charity is as bad as them. Basically it’s a clusterfuck for all charities that offer funding and services to breast cancer patients right now, and considering this is one fuckup in a series of outrageous fuckups by Komen we’re all just basically putting on helmets and rolling our eyes and going LOOKS LIKE KOMEN DID SOME STUPID SHIT AGAIN GOOD GREAT!!!!
I actually reacted super angrily in my rebuttal post, but that is mostly because a) it was early in the morning and I had to go to work where b) I know I’d be yelled at by people calling the nonprofit I work for that offers services to Breast Cancer patients confusing us with Komen and getting mad at us for things we didn’t do.
Anyway whoa this answer is long! As to how I am: I had a really good day at work, actually, only one angry call and a bunch of really nice people.
